Nature Paradise and Holiday Island in Southern Montenegro
- Ada Bojana
Nature and Culinary Diversity
Ada Bojana, the unique triangular river island in southern Montenegro near the border with Albania, is a true gem and only about 15 km from Ulcinj. On two sides, it is surrounded by the emerald-green Bojana River, while the third side borders directly on the Adriatic Sea. Access to the island is conveniently via a bridge.
The island delights with numerous private guesthouses and excellent fish restaurants directly on the water – many of them stand on stilts and are open year-round. Local fishermen supply the island daily with fresh river and sea fish. The water comes from Lake Skadar and the Albanian Alps, is clean and pleasantly cool, while the adjacent seawater is less salty than usual.

Beautiful beaches and ideal conditions for nature lovers
The long sandy beach on the Adriatic side is still largely untouched. There is only one hotel here, which opens mainly in summer for naturists. The quiet months from September to June are ideal for nature lovers, anglers, hikers and those seeking peace, to escape everyday life and unwind.
In summer, it becomes more lively: Along the long road to Ada Bojana and by the river itself, supermarkets, vegetable vendors, cafes, more restaurants, boat rentals, etc. open. Sun-hungry tourists and day visitors enjoy the bustling atmosphere, music from beach bars and the houses along the river fills the air. Kitesurfing, boating, water taxi, jet ski, horse riding, stand-up paddling, canoe, water skiing, paragliding and horse riding are now in season. This time is for summer, sun and beach lovers who also like it a bit more lively. The downsides of this time are, in addition to the hustle and bustle and noise, also crowded roads, occasional power outages and unfortunately still the garbage.
